ROY TOMKINSON - DUBAI: THE HYPOCRITICAL ARAB STATE

Dubai: Modern, Vibrant, Go Ahead,
But Still A Country Filled With
Hypocritical Duplicity!
Men In Suits With Stone Age Values

They want the world’s trade, they want to lock into our Western Culture, try to persuade us to purchase property in their country with fancy advertisements showing bikini clad girls provocatively strutting across the sand to try to encourage us to go there for a holiday. Their citizens wear Western Clothes and crave after Western values.
Their men Sh** our woman, (nothing wrong with that providing there is mutual consent, in case I’m labelled an Arab racist). But still they have some screwed up notion that they are morally above us, but look down into the gutter, that is where you’ll find their morals and values, clearly marked, under the heading of hypocritical duplicity, and their filling cabinet is full to bursting with self-righteous rubbish.
Their laws are barbaric, and should not be tolerated by the West; talk about Afghanistan, look no further than Dubai, they are equally draconian, and they should know better, which makes them even worse. They profess to the rest of the world to be a modern civilized country. Shame on them, they have my full scorn, and no doubt the scorn of most western and American women.
If fact, they get the main prize for hypocrisy, and I’m printing the plaque. How can any educated, self respecting country behave as they do, and the West says little in way of reprimand? We should protest in the strongest terms against a regime that should have gone down the river with the ark and sank long ago.
They treat their cars and camels better that they treat their women, and I suspect, look after them a lot better. I have seen it myself; attractive women boarding a plane at Heathrow Airport dressed in short sleeveless dresses, showing respectable necklines, legs galore, only to rush to the toilet to emerge wearing black dresses down to their ankles, with head, neck, everything covered before they land in their Arab country. What a lot of hypocritical nonsense.
Take the UK citizen, Marnie Pearce, who was found guilty of adultery by a Dubai court last November, after being accused of cheating on her Egyptian ex-husband. So what? She should have the right to sleep with whomever she wishes.
Why should some jumped up Arab Judge tell her how to behave! And, for her adultery, she was punished with a three-month prison sentence, with a proviso, that she be immediately deported back to the UK after serving her prison sentence.
Her husband was awarded full custody of her two sons Laith, seven, and Ziad, four, until they are 18 years of age, and she is to have no rights over seeing her own children. Only when they are 18 would they be legally allowed to go and find their mother. I hope they do leave, “Dubai the hypocritical,” and shun the country for good.
In her case, police raided her home and accused her of having an affair with a neighbour with whom she was drinking tea. But a campaign by friends against the injustice of it, eventually led to her deportation being lifted, and she was allowed to stay in the country, and is now fighting for custody of her children, but still carries a criminal record.
She maintains the allegation, which was made by her husband, was out of revenge, after she ended the marriage because of his own infidelity. One law for the male another for the female, I’m a male, red blooded through and through, but in this case, the Egyptian male’s hypocrisy astounds me.
Even if she did commit adultery, (she had denied it in any event) with a whole football team, that should make not the slightest difference in law. The only thing that should be of relevance is whether she is a good mother to her children, which on that matter, I have no doubts that she is an excellent mother to her children.
In a statement posted on her campaign webpage, “Save Marnie's Babies,” she stated:
"I have been the best mother that I could possibly have been. I may not be perfect, but I have given them everything that God says you should give to your babies.
They are my life, and I would die for them. I really have battled and fought so hard and only God knows what lies ahead. I cannot even begin to put into words the feelings of desperation, loss, fear and numbness that I feel. It really is like something has been driven through my chest. I have the most horrendous worries that only a mum could ever have."

As this barbaric inhuman law stands at present, because she has been found guilty of adultery, it makes her unfit to be a mother, and the Court deems she must not bring up her children. In the United Arab Emirates, it is a criminal offence for a woman to commit adultery (absolutely laughable).
It will now rest with Ms Pearce to seek whatever custody rights she can from the UK if she returns, or now, that she is allowed to stay in the county until further notice by decree from their male dominated Law Courts, which treat women as little better that trash. It looks quite hopeless that there is any chance of her winning.
Another case is Mrs. Antia, who appeared recently in court after being arrested at a hotel in the city centre with her boyfriend. Police had been informed the couple had been staying there by her husband. Mrs. Antia admitted the charge of adultery, after paying for her boyfriend’s flight from Britain.
Both were remanded in custody after their arrest and held in a windowless underground cell, which holds up to 100 people, and she stated that the food was riddled with maggots. Arabs may well be used to that type of food, but decent western men and women are not, and shouldn’t be subjected to that disgusting degrading treatment.
Amnesty International has begun a campaign against the adultery laws, and taken a keen interest in the case of Marnie Pearce and Sally Antia. Tim Hancock, campaign director for Amnesty International UK categorically stated when referring to Sally Antia.
"The sex lives of consenting adults simply shouldn’t be a criminal matter. She should be released, immediately and unconditionally.”
An entry on the Friends Reunited network by Mrs. Antia states: "Living in Dubai for the last 12 years... Married with 2 girls, now aged 11 and 13. Enjoying the sunshine... Happy and healthy... what more can you ask for?"
How about an embargo by all civilized Western countries against the autocratic regime until there is fairness for woman, something you very rarely see in any Arab country.
And what does a spokesperson from the Dubai British Embassy say. Not a lot. "This is a legal matter that will proceed through the courts, and subject to United Arab Emirate Law."
Countries like this understand only one language, the language of the stick, and not the carrot. They will bleed the field dry of carrots before they grant women any form of equality, and it is about time the West stood up and forced them to modernize, and to get rid of these outdated, silly, draconian laws.
Any comments?

  2. if you look at the workforce of a country like Dubai, and their living conditions, living in what can only be described as work camps. it only leads on to their attitude to women and their second class citizenship. as long as the rights of the few wealthy men are deemed of more importance than the rest of the people living in these countries i fear that their ability to keep change and progress to a minimum will carry on well into the future.

  3. Although I've heard about this, I'm not aware of the full story. Adultery isn't acceptible in UAE. This isn't the first case of adultery that made the news. Infact, the only reason it made any news is because she's white. She should have definitely filed a complaint against her husband's infidelity. I would love to have seen the response from the authority on this matter. If you know about anything in this regard, let me know. However, I can tell you for certain, the Dubai jails are full of men.

Although, I don't claim that the law is entirely just in UAE, I don't see any country's law that's just in this day and age.

She should be happy she's a British else her punishment could possibly have been much worse.

Lastly, generalizations are never accurate, especially in regards to an entire population. :) It's sad that you came across some hypocrisy. However, there are very much good people and good practicing Muslims in UAE as in every country.
